The uvea, also known as the vascular layer of the eye, is the middle layer of the eye that lies between the outer layer (sclera) and the inner layer (retina). It consists of three main parts: Iris: The colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil, regulating the amount of light entering the eye. Ciliary body: This structure produces aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye) and controls the shape of the lens for focusing (accommodation). Choroid: A layer filled with blood vessels that supplies oxygen and nutrients to the retina. The uvea plays a critical role in nourishing the eye and controlling light entry. Inflammation of the uvea is called uveitis, which can affect vision and may involve different parts of the uvea.
Englisch: Uvea.
