Die Glandula parotidea, allgemein als Ohrspeicheldrüse bekannt, ist die größte der Speicheldrüsen und liegt vor und unter dem Ohr. Sie produziert Speichel, der wichtige Enzyme für die Vorverdauung der Nahrung enthält und zur Schmierung des Mundes beiträgt. Entzündungen der Ohrspeicheldrüse, wie Parotitis, können schmerzhaft sein und zu Schwellungen führen. Diese Drüse kann auch von Tumoren betroffen sein, die gutartig oder bösartig sein können.

The parotid gland, or glandula parotidea, is the largest of the salivary glands, located in front of and below the ear. It produces saliva that contains important enzymes for the pre-digestion of food and helps lubricate the mouth. Inflammation of the parotid gland, such as parotitis, can be painful and cause swelling. This gland can also be affected by tumors, which may be benign or malignant.
