Schuppenflechte ist der deutsche Begriff für Psoriasis. Es handelt sich dabei um eine chronische Autoimmunerkrankung, die die Haut betrifft. Ähnlich wie bei der englischen Bezeichnung "psoriasis" führt Schuppenflechte zu roten, schuppigen Hautstellen, die oft jucken, schmerzen können und manchmal aufplatzen und bluten. Diese Hautveränderungen können überall am Körper auftreten, sind jedoch besonders häufig an Ellbogen, Knien, der Kopfhaut und im unteren Rückenbereich zu finden. Die Ursache von Schuppenflechte ist noch nicht vollständig verstanden, aber es wird angenommen, dass genetische Faktoren und verschiedene Auslöser wie Stress, Infektionen oder bestimmte Medikamente eine Rolle spielen. Schuppenflechte kann in ihrer Ausprägung stark variieren und tritt oft in Schüben auf.
