Ablatio Mammae ist der medizinische Begriff für die vollständige Entfernung der Brustdrüse, die häufig bei der Behandlung von Brustkrebs angewendet wird. Dieser Eingriff wird auch als Mastektomie bezeichnet. Je nach Art und Ausmaß der Operation können dabei zusätzlich umliegende Strukturen wie Lymphknoten oder Teile der Brustwand entfernt werden.

A mastectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of one or both breasts, partially or completely. It is most commonly performed to treat or prevent breast cancer. There are different types of mastectomies, depending on the extent of the surgery:


1- Total (Simple) Mastectomy: The entire breast tissue, including the nipple, is removed, but the lymph nodes under the arm and the muscles beneath the breast are left intact.


2- Modified Radical Mastectomy: In this procedure, the entire breast is removed along with the lymph nodes under the arm. However, the chest muscles are spared.


3- Radical Mastectomy: This is a more extensive surgery where the entire breast, the lymph nodes under the arm, and the chest muscles beneath the breast are all removed. This type is less common today, as other forms are usually sufficient and less invasive.
